September 3rd: the warmest of welcomes

A day to take a deep breath and prepare for a wonderful few days ahead. We’ll be ready to welcome you between 11am-12.30pm, placing a fresh juice in your hand the moment you arrive. With time to settle in and meet your companions, we’ll meet in the kitchen at 12.30 for your first nutritionally balanced lunch – followed by a period of free time to enjoy the pool or explore the Norfolk countryside.

We will take a gentle yoga flow late afternoon - a chance to breathe deeply, stretch and relax into a different pace. After yoga, you’ve time to relax before drinks and canapés, served around 6pm.

Your evening meal is served early to allow optimum time for digestion before going to bed and to elongate the fasting period between the evening meals and breakfast the following day.

September 4th

RE-SET WITH NUTRITION, YOGA, SOUND BATH THERAPY AND CBT TALK

Your retreat will focus on rebalancing, allowing you to reset your dietary choices and lifestyle going forward. Nutrition is key to each day and we will spend time discussing blood sugar and digestion, the link to stress and how we make specific food choices during periods of stress. Carefully selected functional foods, artisan teas and nutritional supplements will be included in your daily meals and snacks.

We have an experienced CBT therapist who will join us for a group talk and discussion to help your understanding of the mental aspect of dietary and lifestyle choices to support nutritional changes.

We will also have a divine sound bath therapy session by a highly respected practitioner, to help you ease into a deeper state of relaxation and meditation. This is particularly helpful for those who struggle with conventional meditation techniques.

Yoga is taken daily and is designed specifically for the groups ability and the time of the day, enjoying a calming yin practice early evening to relieve stress and anxiety and a more energetic vinyasa flow in the morning to energise and focus the mind. All classes include a 15 minute savasana to promote optimal relaxation!

Our retreat space and accommodation is in a stunning, contemporary barn conversion at Great Barn Farm, located within thousands of acres which is part of a working farm, deep in the Norfolk countryside.

We have 3 twin rooms and 3 king rooms, all with private ensuite. 4 are situated in the main barn and 2 in a further smaller barn which also has a living area and small kitchen. Group sizes are between 10 and 12, depending on occupancy of rooms.

The indoor swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi is located in a further barn with floor to ceiling glass doors which is located less than a minutes walk from our retreat barn.

Pamela taylor

Pamela graduated with a Diploma and Degree in Nutritional Therapy in 2009 from The Institute for Optimum Nutrition and Bedfordshire University, respectively. She has since worked as a Nutritional Therapist both in North Norfolk and London. Pamela’s main area of interest is gastrointestinal health, specifically the microbiome and how we can influence the bacteria in our gut to exert health benefits. She is presently completing a Research MSc in Personalised Nutrition at Middlesex University which has allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of the Functional Medicine model, nutrigenetics and further personalisation of nutritional interventions.

Pamela is registered and regulated by the British Association for Applied Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and is a member of The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, the regulatory body that assures standards of practice in all areas of healthcare. She is also a member of The Royal Society of Medicine.

Alongside her nutrition work, Pamela has worked alongside Kieron within the private hospitality sector, working for discerning clientele in the UK and overseas.

Originally from Scotland, Pamela now lives with Kieron in North Norfolk. She loves yoga, travel, reading, design and film and enjoys walking in the beautiful Norfolk countryside.

Kieron Abbott

From an early age, Kieron’s first passion has been cooking. His career has been firmly entrenched in hospitality, seeing him running a boutique guest house and ski lodge in New Zealand to a Villa in St.Tropez, before settling in a Manor House in his beloved North Norfolk – where he spent the last sixteen years managing the catering and events for an ultra high net worth family.

The focus of his cooking is in creating inspired Vegetarian and Vegan dishes that balance the needs of personalised nutrition. With a desire to make ‘low impact food’, using local and seasonal ingredients is key. With an abundance of produce on the doorstep, Kieron enjoys sourcing the best local ingredients.

Whilst Kieron loves to cook and eat fish, a trip to a restaurant in Berlin sparked his passion for plant-based food having been absolutely blown away by their creative and innovative menu, which has inspired him to place plants front and centre in his own menus.

Kieron loves the Norfolk life and enjoys travel, photography and architecture.

the setting

North Norfolk

The retreat is located in the picturesque village of Gayton Thorpe which is between the charming villages of Massingham and Castle Acre, the latter known for The Castle Acre Priory, one of the largest and best preserved monastic sites in the UK.

We are a 30 minute drive to the vast coastline of North Norfolk with miles of sandy beaches, wide open skies, rolling countryside and an array of charming sleepy flint villages make West and North Norfolk a very unique destination. One of Norfolk’s most beautiful and vibrant villages, Burnham Market, has over 30 small independent shops from book sellers to delis and clothing boutiques. The areas’ thriving art scene is represented in the many galleries. The local area benefits from many superb, award-winning pubs, restaurants and other eateries.

It is easy to lose yourself in the wondrous countryside or the expansive marshes, the big skies ever present. Quiet country lanes, filled with the hum and song of abundant wildlife makes walking and cycling a delight and the many trails make it very accessible. There is truly nowhere else like this beautiful part of the world.
